Hello, my name is Roger and I'm also known as Lincsbirder, hence the name of this site. I would describe myself as a very keen amateur photographer always trying to improve on my photographic skills and techniques.
I have been a bird watcher for well over thirty years. Around 12 years ago I started to photograph what I saw. I started off with a compact camera and as my interest and photographic knowledge developed I upgraded from the compact to a DSLR and over a period of time built up my kit. I started off photographing birds, however I soon became interested in macro photography as well with dragonflies, damselflies, and butterflies becoming favourite subjects.
Many of my photographs are taken at the excellent nature reserves in the North Lincolnshire area of the UK where I live. Messingham sand quarries and Crowle moor being favourite haunts of mine during the summer months when the dragon and damselflies are on the wing. Waters Edge and Far Ings at Barton-upon-Humber are also excellent places that I regularly visit. I also make trips further afield when time and weather conditions allow, Rufford Park and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire being a couple of my favourite locations.
I have had photographs published in Practical Photography, Angler's Mail, The Times national newspaper and The Mail Online. I have had images used in a field guide. "The Bird of Ireland". Many of my images have also been used in Wildlife publications for various charities
My wife Sue has recently been bitten by the photography bug and you can view her photographs by clicking this link
